Tooth Whitening
Tooth whitening is becoming increasingly
popular. It is no longer a procedure reserved for the celebrity elite.
Consumers have a number of different methods available to them these days.
Whitening Treatments Available From Your
Dentist
In Office Bleaching
Your dentist will apply a bleaching chemical on your teeth. They may
speed up the process by using a light or heat source. You may be required
to come back for several treatments.
Out of Office Bleaching
Your dentist will fit you with a tray which they have fitted to your
mouth. They will give you a bleaching solution most often containing
peroxide and will have you apply the solution for a set time period.
Laser Whitening
A special gel is applied to the tooth and then a laser light is used to
activate the gel whitening the tooth very quickly. This is the most
effective quickest and by far the most expensive method of tooth
whitening available.
Whitening Treatments Available Over the
Counter
Whitening Toothpaste
These toothpastes may contain abrasives to help polish away stains. They
will generally only make a slight difference lightening your teeth only
one shade on average.
Whitening Systems
These systems are usually a peroxide gel or strip that is applied to the
teeth once or twice a day for one to two weeks. These systems provide
decent results but the results are generally not as significant or long
lasting as a dentist applied treatment.
